Children's Liturgy of the Word

Throughout the school year, St. Mary's offers Children's Liturgy of the Word during the 10:00am Mass for children ages 4 through 10.  It has been a gift to the parish and to the families whose children participate in it.  Dedicated catechists lead this age-appropriate time for children to understand the Sunday Scriptures and to reflect on how they are called to live the message in their daily activities.

What happens during Children's Liturgy of the Word?

After the opening prayer, the Presider calls forward the children and the catechists and blesses them.

The children follow their leader to the school building and assemble in the Multi-Purpose Room.

The Sunday Scriptures are read from the Children's Lectionary:

  • 1st Reading (Old Testament)
  • Responsorial Psalm
  • 2nd Reading (New Testament)
  • Gospel Acclamation & Reading

Afterward, a reflection on the Scriptures is given.  The Creed & Prayer of the Faithful are read.

Everyone returns to the assembly during the Presentation of the Gifts as we all continue to celebrate the Eucharist around the table as one family of faith.

We hope you'll consider having your children join us each week for this faith formation opportunity!
